My priorities: Students, Communities, Collaboration
Laurie Szadkowski has spent her career in education listening to students, families, staff, and the communities, leading schools through positive change, challenging circumstances, and making decisions that supported student success. Now she’s ready to bring that experience, independence, and judgment to the Sooke School Board.
Laurie’s priorities as Trustee for SD62:
- Keep students at heart. Focus on student learning, safety, and success. Supporting students creates the conditions for all staff to feel supported and successful in their work.
- Be a voice for communities. Advocate for students and staff to learn and work in inclusive, respectful, and safe environments. Advocate on behalf of students, staff, and communities at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
- Collaborate fully. Listen respectfully, engage in thoughtful discussions, and take action for the best outcomes.
“I understand how the system works. Schools and districts face complex issues, from rapid student growth and budget pressures brought on by inflation, to keeping schools safe, clean, and maintained. I want to help build trust, improve transparency, and ensure that school board decisions are made with care, accountability, and are centred on the best interests of students.”
