A lifetime connected to education and our community.
Education has been part of Laurie Szadkowski’s life for generations. Her great-great-grandparents helped build one of the area’s first schools near Tugwell Creek in 1899. Her parents were teachers, and Laurie attended Saseenos Elementary and Edward Milne Community School as a student. Her children graduated from schools in Sooke, and she was an active parent volunteer and PAC president. Today, she is proud to be a grandparent of children who are part of the local school system.
Laurie went on to earn a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria in 1996 and a Master of Education in 2006. She spent 25 years serving SD62 (Sooke) as a teacher, vice-principal and principal, including time as District Principal of Indigenous Education.

Laurie’s experience has given her an understanding of education from many different perspectives: as a student, parent, educator, school administrator and community member.
